Why Ryan Carrillo Gets Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

Sean Burton |

"Wanna get fixed? Then break"

When I was 14 years old, just a child, I herniated a disc in my lower back and my competitive nature had been stolen from me. I don’t know if it was my fault or the fault of the coaches not teaching my how to squat properly, but I knew this would affect me.

Yet, I look back on it now and think, “I’m glad this happened. This is what I needed. This is what I needed to realize that I had limitations. And that I needed to break them.”

On this journey, I’ve learned a lot. Not only about myself, being a man and being on my own. I learned, and experienced, what it’s like to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. And, I’m here to tell you today, if you can’t tolerate being uncomfortable; you’ll never make it to the next level.

Here are 10 things you can look into right now to make the journey a little less confusing for you

Take ownership of yourself and your life

You’re responsible for yourself. No one is going to hold your hand through life. They can only show you the way. You have to be the one to make it happen.

Action is key

If you don’t do anything about your situation, how can you expect it to change? Nothing in life happens on its own. It takes YOU initiating it.

Be a decision maker

Not making a decision is still making a decision. You cannot afford to NOT make decisions in your life. That’s how you end up a victim.

Leadership is an action, not a position

When I was training in Powerlifting, I met a woman named Jill Mills who taught me this. We all can use a strong leader in our life and it isn’t always going to be your boss, supervisor or CEO of your company. YOU can be the leader without a title.

Perfect is the enemy of the good enough

There’s no such thing as “perfect”. That ideal has stagnated and halted more progress than anything. “Good enough to grow” will always be better than “perfect” because it leaves room for progress.

You can't do it alone

You need help and, if you think you don’t, you’re on your way to failure. I needed my coaches. I need my team. I needed my support system. I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if they hadn’t been involved in it

You can only rely on yourself for what you want in life

You come into this world alone and, unfortunately, you leave alone. You have to able to depend and rely on yourself. You can have all the money, support, love and knowledge in the world to achieve your goals but if you can’t make it happen, then what good are those resources?

Ask for what you want in life, the worst you will hear is no.

Not asking for fear of rejection is ridiculous. To many people are afraid to take a chance on knowing the truth. One “No” could lead you to the next “Yes

Your failures teach you more about yourself than any victory can

Success is awesome and it can be addicting. But I look to learn and grow more from my failures. The lessons and experience I gain from my failures is, in my opinion, my valuable than my success

Do the work, and don't complain.

Complainers get nowhere in life, especially in business. At the end of the day you have to put the work in, don't think you can coast through life and get where you want. Life is a result of consistent choices and daily efforts. So put in the work and you’ll get to where you need to be.

At the end of the day, you’re going to do whatever you’re going to do. All I want to leave you with is this,

“Don’t ever give up hope. Manage your mind. And learn how to be comfortable being uncomfortable" - Ryan Carrillo
